Huntingdon’s Food & Drink Festival and ‘Go Make’ a Sandwich Competition

Posted: Tue, May 8th, 2018

Friday 22 & Saturday 23 June
Market Square
10am – 5pm
History tells us that John Montagu, the Fourth Earl of Sandwich, is the person we have to thank for that much-loved ‘quick snack’, the sandwich! As a gambling man, the Earl would often request a piece of meat between two slices of bread whilst playing cards and this quickly became known as the Sandwich.

Into the present day and 2018 marks the 300th Anniversary of John Montagu, so in celebration of the sandwich, and the fact that the Montagu family resided in Hinchingbrooke House, Huntingdon will be introducing a Food & Drink Festival along with a super Sandwich Competition.

Brought to you by Huntingdon Town Council and Huntingdon First, the Food & Drink Festival will take place on Huntingdon’s Market Square on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd June.  A mouth-watering choice of food and drinks will be on offer as well as cookery demonstrations and family-fun entertainment!

Back to the Sandwich! A Sandwich Competition will take place on Friday 22nd June with local schools, businesses and charities invited to create their very own sandwich! All sandwiches will be delivered to the Town Hall on the day and judged by a culinary panel. The winning entries will be crowned Champion Sandwich Makers 2018! So get the bread and the fillings at the ready and Go Make!
